Up For Discussion

Sunday 10:00 a.m.

Up for Discussion is an adult enrichment class meeting at 10:00 Sunday morning. Books are chosen by group consensus and generally follow the chapter a week rhythm. Previous selections have included topics in theology, Bible study, social justice, and personal spirituality. Everyone is welcome.

Women in Community

Women in Community meets in person meets weekly on Wednesday mornings at 10:00 in the Media Center. The group reads and studies various books and books of the Bible. The group is currently studying the Gospel of Mark using materials prepared by Amy-Jill Levine.

Centering Prayer

Thursday 7:30 p.m.

Centering Prayer moves us beyond conversation with Christ to communion with him. In the silence we are invited to 'be still and know that I am God.'

Pastor Robert Abarno, a member of Saint Luke, has been guiding people who are interested in learning about centering prayer for some years, and hosts Thursday evening gatherings on Zoom at Saint Luke Lutheran Church. Centering Prayer meets from 7:30 - 8:30 pm Thursday evenings. All invited!

A relevant book is David Frenette's "The Path of Centering Prayer" (2012)

WELCA - Sarah Lydia Circle

1st, 3rd, & 5th Wednesday of the month 5:30 p.m.

WELCA is a organization of Lutheran women who gather in more than 7,000 locations in the U.S. and the Caribbean, for service, study, advocacy, fellowship and more! WELCA embraces all kinds of ministries that support our mission of mobilizing women to act boldly on their faith in Jesus Christ. We welcome all to participate in this ministry.

Mary Martha and Sarah Lydia are are two groups of women who come together for Bible Study, community and world relief service projects, retreats, and many other events. Mary Martha uses the monthly WELCA publication GATHER as a resource for discussion and Bible study. Sarah-Lydia are watching and discussing the Great Courses, "The History and Archeology of the Bible.”

Men's Group

Second Saturday each month 8:30 a.m.

The Men's Bible Study Group meets on the second Saturday of the month from 8:30 - 10:00 a.m. in the 915 Highland Drive pasonage.

The group is currently studying the Gospel of John.

Book and Video Discussion Group

Fourth Friday each month at 7 p.m.

The book and video discussion group meets on the fourth Friday of most months in the Fireside Room.

The group alternates between discussing movies or books each month. On September 19, the group will discuss The Violin Conspiracy by Brendan Slocumb. Not only does the author describe the theft of a valuable violin, but tackles the lack of diversity in the world of classical music. The author is a renowned violinist and speaks from experience in this novel.

English as a Second Language

Monday, Tuesday, & Wednesday 7:00 - 8:30 p.m.

San Lucas offers daily beginner English as a Second Language Class each week that focus on the dialogue required for workplace communications. The meetings take place in the community room at 1009 Merrimac Dr (Silver Spring, MD 20903).
